George M. Ingram

Executive Director

Vice President, AED

George provides overall management and direction for the EPDC. Prior to coming to EPDC, Dr. Ingram served as the founding director of the Basic Education Coalition, a group of 20 development organizations that advocates for greater priority for basic education in development programs. He began his profession career as senior staff member of the House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs (1973-1994), responsible for international economic and development issues. Subsequently, he served as Vice President of Citizens Democracy Corps and then as the Principal Deputy Assistant Administrator of the Agency for International Development, with primary responsibility for U.S. assistance programs in the former Soviet Union. He serves on various non-profit boards, including chairing the U.S. Global Leadership Campaign, a consortium of over 400 corporations and NGOs that promotes great engagement and resources for U.S. international affairs activities.

Dr. Ingram has a B.A. from the University of North Carolina, a Masters from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.

Annababette Wils

Research Director

Babette contributes to the conceptualization of the data system and the graphical data presentation, is developing the EPDC's series of projection models and projections, and has authored many of the EPDC's reports. From 1987-1994, Babette was a researcher in population and development issues at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis in Austria. Before joining the EPDC she managed the internet-based Population and Environment Research Network sponsored by the MacArthur Foundation and worked on simulation modeling at the Massachusetts Institute for Technology with the System Dynamics Group.

Dr. Wils holds an M.A. in economics and a Ph.D. in demography from the University of Vienna, Austria, and lives in Boston with her husband and two daughters.

Ania Chaluda

Research Associate

Ania manages the integrity of the EPDC statistical database and works on various research projects involving education data extraction, analysis, and report writing. Her previous work experience includes tutoring children from families with abuse problems in Poland, working as an assistant in special education programs at Walker Home & School in Boston, and working as a Research Assistant at a non profit organization Center for Inspired Teaching.

Ania holds a B.A./M.A. degree in Sociology from Jagiellonian Universityin Krakow, Poland. She currently is working towards her Masters in Public Policy at George Washington University.

Joseph Goodfriend

Research Associate

Joseph is responsible for formatting and extracting education data and indicators and conducting policy analysis for use in policy briefs and presentations. Joseph has experience in the classroom as a tutor, teacher, and mentor. He has a strong quantitative background and an understanding of social and economic issues in developed and developing countries. As an undergraduate he worked with underprivileged youth in DC public schools through the DC Reads program and AmeriCorps. Before joining the AED he studied economic development abroad, trade relations, and youth engagement at several public policy research organizations.

Joseph holds a B.A. in International Affairs and Statistics from George Washington University.

HyeJin Kim

Research Associate

HyeJin contributes to a range of tasks involved in education research and policy analysis—collecting data, conducting statistical analysis, writing research reports, creating education profiles, and developing projection tools—to address various educational issues at stake. HyeJin also oversees the publicity of the EPDC for the better use and application of data and tools. Prior to joining EPDC, HyeJin engaged in research on domestic and international education issues around teachers and unions at the American Federation of Teachers.

HyeJin holds a B.A. in Anthropology and Sociology from the University of Notre Dame and an Ed.M. in International Education Policy from Harvard Graduate School of Education.

Sarah Oliver

Web and Report Developer

Sarah manages the website and database, helps develop and produce charts for country profiles, and automates the projections models. Prior to joining EPDC, Sarah spent a year in AmeriCorps running a leadership program for high school students.

Sarah graduated from Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering with a B.S. in Engineering in 2006.

Ben Sylla

Research Associate

Ben oversees EPDC’s work with household datasets and ensures that the education indicators EPDC calculates from these sources are accurate and reliable. He also works on data collection, analysis, and presentation. Ben grew up outside of the United States, living in Kenya, Hungary, Bolivia, Mali, and Pakistan, before settling in the Washington, D.C. area.

Ben holds a B.A. from the University of Virginia and an M.P.P. with a concentration on Education and International Development from George Washington University.
